The AIBO Project

A C# Forms application based on research work on multimodal command and control of the Sony AIBO robot dog.

This project has recently been redeveloped for greater ease of use and with expandability in mind. Communications with AIBO are over WIFI and include speech (using either Microsoft SAPI or the Hidden Markov Model Toolkit), email, typed commands, visual interfaces and SMS (short messaging service). A website is also in development for command and control of AIBO including views from AIBO’s own camera.

Since its start this project has been aimed at promoting the department during open days. The aim of the project in its current form is to provide a training platform for 6th Form students interested in a career in Engineering (through the University of Birmingham) during a “Master Class” open day at the department.
